Jay, never mind the undersea landslides which are trivial. It's the meteorites hitting the atmosphere or ocean which make the real waves. Have you included that wave function in your equations for economic tsunamis? It's the unexpected exogenous events which are the most fun. Anyone worried about CO2 causing a sea level change has got their priorities wrong. We can all move uphill over decades and centuries if the atmosphere warms up due to CO2. If a comet hits an ocean or the atmosphere above it, the 'splash' will take only a short time to reverberate around the world. Some people might make it to 1 km above sea level in time, but most wouldn't. Such an impact would not be economically productive [though to 'War is Good' economists, they'd probably think it was great]. Globalstar would continue in business as would QUALCOMM. Globalstar handsets would be very popular. Both will do very well in an economic crunch or geophysical one. Mqurice

Sydney is at high risk from tsunamis. Geological evidence - like rocks from the beach rammed into the top of the cliffs shows that tsunamis in the recent past went right over the Sydney Heads (the headlands on either side of the mouth to the Harbour) and down into the harbour on the other side. I suspect a lot of places on the coast are.
