LSI Logic Storage Systems Leads the Storage Industry With Native InfiniBand Demonstration

IBM to Present Demonstration at Intel Development Forum (IDF)

MILPITAS, Calif., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative storage solutions for the open enterprise, is now demonstrating the world's first native InfiniBand attachment between application servers and a high performance storage system, LSI Logic's MetaStor(R) E4400.

"IBM is pleased to be working with LSI Logic Storage Systems and demonstrating high performance direct attached storage with InfiniBand I/O on our systems," said Dr. Tom Bradicich, CTO for IBM eServer xSeries. "The use of InfiniBand products from five different vendors is another example of the interoperability of InfiniBand architecture across the I/O fabric of an enterprise."

Originally developed by the InfiniBand Trade Association, InfiniBand architecture is a next generation specification for low latency serial input/output (I/O) between servers and storage devices within a defined fabric. By design, InfiniBand fabrics have the potential to perform better and to be more interoperable, reliable and scalable than existing technologies.

"We are excited about InfiniBand architecture's potential as a component of our strategy to deliver high performance and maximum interoperability to the open enterprise," said Flavio Santoni, vice president of worldwide marketing for LSI Logic Storage Systems, Inc. "We are also very pleased to work with IBM and Intel to be the first to demonstrate the potential of InfiniBand architecture in a native attachment, which is the way this technology should be used for optimum performance and reliability."

The LSI Logic MetaStor E4400 storage system delivers unsurpassed performance in data intensive, enterprise applications. The MetaStor E-Series family features scalability from less than 32 gigabytes to more than 39 terabytes of online data storage and can be connected to computers running Windows NT, Windows 2000, NetWare, Solaris, Linux, HP-UX, AIX, Tru64 and IRIX operating systems.

"Open specifications such as InfiniBand architecture are the embodiment of vendor cooperation," said Jim Pappas, director of initiative marketing for Intel's Enterprise Platform Group. "Working demonstrations of real-world data center applications running on InfiniBand architecture enabled systems is a proof point of the industry's progress in InfiniBand fabric delivery."

The Intel Developer Forum is a worldwide program that gives developers the technical information and vision they need to succeed in creating innovative products for the Internet economy. Yeah, maybe we should take action against the company and put another 200,000 people on the unemployed list? Nah! Ain't gonna happen!
