Neither should SPEC be used as a benchmark because it could be rewritten to be far more effective than the "what we can get away with" compiler benchmark it is now. Your arguments make many of the benchmarks used to tout the P4 just as incorrect as your complaints about SuperPI. That means the BAPCO tests, the Sandra tests, and many others.

Fact is that the effort to get P4 to do well is much higher than the effort required for the Athlon to do well at a task. Intel's job is to lower that effort. So far it has reduced somewhat but, no where near where it needs to go. At least, it is far better than the effort required for IA-64 to do well.
