"Mitsubishi Elec: 2001/02 chip sector loss likely"

biz.yahoo.com
__________

It's hard to fathom that the Nikkei is at a 17 year low having broken through 11,000. Every major Japanese chip maker (NEC, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, etc.) is now acknowledging the ugliness with various combinations of massive layoffs, slashed forecasts, reduced capex spending and missed earnings. On the bright side, perhaps we'll get a break from this latest string of semi warnings coming out of Tokyo, as I don't believe there's anyone left.
