Good counter points but I still have to disagree with your statement...

I can assure you that machinists, mechanics and many of the extremely skilled and highly educated members of their respective unions would find your comment somewhat hysterical and not at all reality based.


You can go to a 6 week technical institute and become a machinist. One of my best friends in high school dropped out and did so and then was hired on by Emerson Electric in St. Louis making about 30 an hour ( it did include extra pay for working the midshift ). In the 1980/81 market, that was a darn good wage. My other friend became a doctor and struggled for years and only after serving out his internship, residency and and specializing after years more of schooling did he finally start making any kind of money.
