all those benchmarks showing that SDRAM is the wave of the future

No, it's the placeholder to keep companies like Gateway IBM and other second tier players in business until economy recovers. If they can't make money selling computers for $799 utilizing $14 DIMM chips and $45 Celeron CPUs, they and Intel are in trouble big time.
Something else is replacing SDRAM for mainstream computing in the future. Could be 4iRDRAM, could be DDR. I surely don't know anymore.
