The story under discussion was about 19th century patriarchy. The points being made were about the powerlessness of the woman versus the power of her husband.

The post of mine you have quoted you misunderstood. I was making the point that I do not buy the concept that all power, and all misuse of power, lies with the class of males, or even that misuse of power is more a male than a female habit. I gave three examples to make the point that it is untrue that women lack power, and use it, if it advantages them, selfishly. I then explained explicitly what I meant, so there should have been no misunderstanding.

This is what I wrote:

...We have the power, maybe not as a class but certainly as individuals, to make them very unhappy, to exploit them, to blame them for our own choices. It is truly not 1899 any more.

This is the rest of the post:

It is human nature among the weak as well as the strong to use whatever advantage lies to hand. Males do not have a monopoly on that tendency, though generally more advantages lie to hand for them.

Not always, though.

Do you understand that that was a post in defense of males, or of the position that one sex has no monopoly on virtue or its opposite?
