Tenchusatsu, McKinley looks like another winner from Intel.

I wonder if that 1.5x to 2x performance increase is overall, or on a clock-for-clock basis (I'm guessing overall, but you can never be too sure :-)). The quick proliferation into .13u for both high end and low power segments is a comforting confirmation for me. The article also says the following:

"Despite delays with Merced, its progeny are following in quick succession. Prototype servers containing McKinley will begin to appear later this year. Commercial systems will arrive in 2002, said Talwalker."

I think the key will be launching McKinley on time, and getting an installed base ASAP. But so far it looks to be a very successful product. I'm also glad they made an effort to improve the integer performance.
