Sun Microsystems ...(SUNW) 13.43 -0.13: In mid-quarter update, says that current qtr has proven to be quite challenging... order rates through week eight of qtr are less than what they expected six weeks ago... at current rate, says it will be difficult to hit $3.7 bln break-even point in revenues (current consensus is $3.8 bln)... notes it would take a very large month in Sep to hit the break-even point, and indicates it wouldn't count on that at this point.... SUNW -0.61

JW - I think there must be a number of good money managers out there that are buying lesser known names and that is why you the brilliant results from that guy from Oakmark, Wygnen and the other one from Pilgrim on CNBC the other day.

Someone on QCOM or was it here I can't remember recommended
DSPG in reply to one of my posts. It is up since I got the post. PROX was touted on CNBC it was $8 before the interview, $9 within 10 minutes of the interview and it is now over $11. All within the last few weeks while the market has been tanking. There must be many others out there. These companies were ot overvalued as many of the big names are.

In fact if you take the big names with the exception of QCOM they must all be in trouble. SUNW virtually said they aren't going ot make any money from here on in. AMD say their revenues are declining, my guess is so is INTCs despite what they say. I don't think they are telling porkies but I think they may not know and the reductions may hit them late in teh qtr. The point is that many of these companies are mature and being hit with the greatest slump in history hurts them badly.

On the other hand a company which has just left the starting block and is in high gear as its products take off doesn't get so badly hurt in the middle of a slump and it probably didn't have such a big valuation either. Not always true eg PXLW. But there are good values techs out there. We should be looking for them on a thread devoted just to that.

Best regards,

L
