i used to think that way, 'stay out of debt', but with bankruptcy, why?

You get to keep all your stuff!

Who cares if i have bad credit after that? I would already own my home.

Someone please show me how not to be so responsible and get the 'free ride'

Regarding real estate debt:

I forget the book and author, but the guy said something to the effect of: "You'll be worth tomorrow what you owe today." I agree.

And from my own book, a phrase I preach often..."DEBT SUCKS!"...so I avoid it.
