One area in which I'm proud of Intel is this: If I recall correctly, in the previous P4 releases, they did not claim in their press releases that their product was the highest performing x86 chip. They showed restraint, and so the fact that they're claiming it now (truthfully) packs a bigger, more honest punch.

no one would argue with you that p4-2GHz is fast.
I asked an IT guy at work about relative speeds between processor and the answer was that p4-2GHz is more than 40% faster. I asked about what exactly does that mean to which he said that it simply means that it would take 40% less time to complete my programs on p4-2GHz than on a-1.4.
was he right?
He was one of our IT people who should know what performance is.
