As you pointed out, Intel acquired Alpha IP, but it's doubtful that Intel will use that IP to continue making Alpha processors. Either way, Compaq is not continuing research and development of Alpha Processor technology, and they are intending to transition their Enterprise product lines to Itanium Architecture. Therefore, one can say that Compaq "dropped" Alpha for the Itanium.

P.S. You are correct that "Poor Ignorant Albert" was not called for. Few of the people on this forum are ignorant of what goes on, but the interpretation of the available data certainly differs from person to person.

We could ban him from the thread, oh, I forgot, this thread isn't moderated.

Looks like you will just have to live with the adjectives, or put him on ignore.

What's AMD's next move? I heard a BOA analyst on CNBC saying that he thought AMD would be losing market share to Intel for the rest of the year.
