Don, I agree with that, but with the proviso that socialist countries own a lot of things which belong to the existing shareholders who are the existing citizens [more accurately those who contributed; but that clock can't be wound back either].

Until the resolution of who owns what is resolved, locals will feel annoyed to see their contributions being handed off to opportunistic newcomers.

The answer [as you correctly suggest] is to fix the problems at both ends. Ditch the statist stuff in places such as Australia, which could then benefit from the enthusiastic efforts of the newcomers who would have to produce or get hungry.

I was aware I was giving a half-baked answer. When Mexicans arrive illegally in the USA, they are contributing in a significant way to the USA economy though as they can't collect welfare payments or other entitlements from taxpayer funds [I believe] - though they do get free use of roads, emergency hospitals etc. They enjoy the taxpayer-funded police, army etc [which is probably no economic problem as those institutions are of relatively little value to the illegal immigrants as they have nothing much to lose.

My guess is that illegal Mexican immigration is a net economic benefit to the USA taxpayers and citizens.

But the USA runs a tight welfare system compared with the luxury of the Australian and New Zealand bludgers' nirvana.

Thanks for pointing out the more important issue,
Mqurice
