Intel would be fine if not for the "other" businesses. That's where they are losing money. You and I can disagree about how wise it was for Intel to diversify all over the place, but the numbers tell the story on the success of microprocessors and the failure (so far) of communications and networking.

Some folks forget that semiconductors are a cyclical business. Just when they claim that "everything has changed", you get an upcycle.

I noticed that you prefaced your opinion with "So Far". You're absolutely right.... So Far. Will it get better? I don't know. Will communications and networking diminish in the next decade? I don't think so. Will intel be a success? Maybe so, maybe not.

I just don't believe that you can grow your business successfully by focusing on one thing only. Others have a different opinion. Good for them.

I don't invest in one company, just like I don't invest in one segment of the market. Will I ever strike it rich by buying into a "MicroSoft" in it's infancy? Probably not. But I'll be sipping "retirement" margaritas on a beach in Bermuda, while the "Dot Com" babies are spending their days in bankruptcy court.

Works for me.
