I think the driver <for the modem only> or perhaps it was, indeed the modem itself which was affected by the storm ...

however, I noticed that CPQ had settled a multi million dollar suit for problems caused by their modems in earlier machines ....

it was really a strange feeling to have the dude
lock up
mouse wouldn't move
then
whapppp ...
automatic reboot all by itself ...

there was/is a Lucent Winmodem on the box from the factory .. bout year and a half old ....
good functioning machine and no complaints ....

I have noticed that Win Modems *(any brand) are a lot more touchy than the more expensive ones ...
but
again, not enough better to make me pay for them any more . ...ggggg
