Part of his problem is he writes allegories that only he gets. He wrote an article in his local paper once about a fox who was coming on his property and killing his peacocks. He then described the manner in which he got rid of the fox, and it wasn't pretty. He took a lot of heat from animal rights groups, but what they didn't understand was the characters in his little barnyard fable each represented someone on the local political scene. Apparently, there was some kind of controversy in his town at the time. The fox was supposed to be the local sheriff.
