Sun is different from DEC IMO as they always promoted an open architecture, and 2) purchased companies to fill out their deficiencies and 3) made aliances like Hitachi to strengthen their solutions approach. They also developed in the area of software to a much greater extent than DEC. SUNW won't die the same fate as DEC IMHO.

One point that may be disturbing for SUNW investors. Ken O also was very reluctant to cut the workforce, even when the business environment demanded it. Their inability to cut costs at a critical time accelerated their demise.

It seems that Scott shares this trait with Ken, though probably for different reasons.

One point in SUNW's favor; Scott is much more of a marketing type than Ken was. Having an engineering culture is fine as long as the top management is marketing/sales focused, IMO.
