Concerns about the Metro buildout-
If CIEN is targeting this area as they state, I am disturbed to hear about the recent Verizon experience where Tellabs was selected for DWDM metro gear over the CIEN gear. I will bet without any factual knowledge that this selection was based on more effective use of existing plant (mainly supplied by Tellabs) and the buyer wanted to get single vendor support advantages when selecting commodity parts like DWDM units. So I am chalking this one up to reduced capex expenditure gameplans currently underway at the old RBOC service providers.
CIEN will (I MEAN MUST) get going with AT&T and/or SPRINT with their metro roll out so that competitive pressure is once again applied to the legacy RBOCs just as it was with the not defunct CLECs. So I am going to watch this aspect of the CIEN activity and it will determine any future accumulation of CIEN for my account. Right now it looks like CIEN is well positioned to execute this strategy.
