Do you know whether they are real inconsistencies? Does Florida allow adoption by single heterosexuals? I don't know. They do allow homosexual couples to be foster parents, but not to adopt. On the face that looks like an inconsistency, but I'm not sure it is in law -- children in foster care are still under the guardianship and supervision of the state and can be moved without need for any court intervention if the state feels it necessary or appropriate; also, in theory at least, those are short-term placements.

BTW, I notice that a few minutes after I posted it here it was picked up on the KK thread, with the heading "talk about sad." Wonder whether any of the people who think it's sad will come over here to offer their thinking.
