That's a good point. Why is it okay for a kid to bond with an adult and live with him for, what was it, 9 years or something like that, but not be adopted? You would think after nine years any concerns they would have about the parenting would have been resolved.

OTOH, of course, as to legal commitment a homosexual relationship isn't stable--though many such relationships are as stable as any marriage, by law a partner can leave at any moment and have no legal responsibilities to the other for maintenance, support, child support, etc. That may be in their thinking.

It's a complex situation. Are the best interests of the children really what the state is most interested in here?
