While China's GNP per capita is still low and maybe 750 million earn less than $200 per annum [is that really true] there are a lot of people there who earn a lot more. Also, their incomes are rising quickly. People had better stock up with Made in China quickly because they aren't going to work for low wages for too many years. Of course, they will always be able to buy Made in India, or Made in Indonesia as China becomes more expensive. Meanwhile, they aren't actually paid in US$. So, although the currency conversion says US$200, what matter is what it feels like in China. They will buy ASICs from Q! at [presumably] the international market rate [though QUALCOMM might do a special deal since they will place big orders and don't have a lot of money and sales are slow in Europe]. Then Chinese will make cellphones in China, paying each other low wages. So a cellphone in China will cost a LOT less than one Made in USA. 2.5% royalty from China won't make Q! rich. A Made in China CDMA phone might be very affordable locally. They are buying a lot of GSM phones, so I imagine they could afford a cheap, locally made CDMA phone without too much difficulty. I think China will be using 1 billion CDMA phones by 2010. Give or take 100 million or two.
