Online retailers slash marketing

E-commerce Web sites are continuing to reduce the dollars they spend to build up their markets. Customer acquisition costs fell to $14 in the second quarter, according to a survey of 74 retailers by the Boston Consulting Group. A year ago, the cost was $40.
