IC foundries will experience more significant sales growth in October thanks to stronger demand in the PC and consumer sectors, according to the "Economic Daily." Some of TSMC's main PC sector customers, i.e., VIA, nVIDIA, and ATI, are booking more orders. Meanwhile, UMC is seeing better inflow of orders from STMicroelecrronics, ATI, Sun Microsystem, and MediaTek. Both foundries might see sales growth of 5% to 10% mom in October.

UMC (2303 TT) will sell 8" inch wafer equipment to a Chinese IC company, Shanghai Belling, according to the “Commercial Times.” Rumor has it that UMC will sell its equipment through the arrangements of the distributor Topco (5434 TT) via Singapore. We feel positive about this news as UMC and IC packaging companies will be leading in setting up manufacturing facilities in China and enjoy higher growth in the China market.
