BMW,

Re: "- AMD still has SOI K7 set for 2H02."

This is almost a year after INTC introduction of .13um ... If AMD
slips by another year, they will be a full process generation
behind, again and again. <ggg>

Make It So,

Wanna: I also liked how their Windows Media Encoder V4 test showed Athlon beating the Pentium 4 by ~30%, but their SysMark 2000 - Windows Media Encoder test showed Pentium 4 beating the Athlon by ~30%. Gotta love their consistent messages.

The reason is, of course, that they are benchmarking two different versions of Windows Media Encoder. The first V4 test uses a version that does not contain P4 optimizations, the other a version that does.

Both are completely irrelevant, since they have near-zero market share. For the most-commonly used audio encoders, the Athlon trounces the P4. For the most-commonly used video encoders, the P4 trounces the Athlon.

I guess in that respect, using the two versions of WME is actually fairly representative of the "real world" ;-).

(but it still sucks and AMD should do their best to push benchmarks of the programs people actually use, but I guess at the end of the day, AMD believes their target audience is more convinced if the encoder is made by Microsoft - regardless of its actual use / usability).
