De Beers extracted just over 300 tonnes of
kimberlite from the Hearne pipe, and about 550 tonnes of material from the
AK-5034 pipe.

2000 carats/850 tonnes = 2.4 carats per tonne

Given they were likely sampling the best areas of the pipes, this is a bit dissappointing,...earlier results produced as high as 3 carats per tonne. Values for rough have decreased considerably over the last year, so the value per tonne may be uneconomic again,...less than US$50 per carat, unless they pulled some nice big ones out.

The rumor touts better start whispering about lots of 5 carat+++ diamonds (gggggggggggggggg).
