Ted was a self-made man. I recently read about his life. His family may have had some money but nothing substantial. He is one of the most amazing success stories our of time and the world is a better place because of him. Also, he is not a liberal. Get that out of your head. He is progressive but pretty conservative. Look at TNT channel. He programs to the heartland, middle America. No sex or violence. He is a straight arrow. The two areas he disagrees with conservatives is the environment and womens rights, both causes I applaud, esp for me the environment. Everyone should be champions of the environment even political conservatives. The bane and achilles heel of the GOP now is that it has been taken over by pollutors and anti-environmental forces with their dirty soft money. This is indefensible. All they can do is try and lie about it and cover it up but they are in the process of trying to derail 20 years of environmental protection and actually increase global pollution and wilderness "exploration". They're dismantling consumer protection too. It's all bad bad policy and corrupt politics. The GOP used to be better than that. And that is why Jeffords switched.
