Using SMC wireless access point (smc2655w)to connect to a SMC barricade router. Laptop uses a SMC wireless pc card (smc2632w) which connects by radio signal to the wireless access point.

Linksys also has these products and are a little cheaper.
You can actually go all wireless but I already had a wired network and was just adding on the wireless feature. There is encryption on the wireless signal. It runs at 11mbps and I took it upstairs and outside without the signal degrading.
