Abstract for Keynote Address
Customers are embracing the incredible recent advances in storage technologies to improve business effectiveness and the bottom line. Yet one of their key challenges is getting all the storage elements to work together. Mr. Brown will outline the challenges and the opportunities the storage industry must address to enable storage interoperability in a way that make sense for customers.

Information is the lifeblood of every business in the world today. It's the customer intimacy businesses want to get to. It's the detail of the suppliers that they rely on to put their product into the market. It's the shipping instructions they create. It's the Invoices they issue and it's the payments that customers make in return.
We know that information will increase dramatically as we implement the E-way of doing business, with the Internet acting as the gateway for the exchange of information with suppliers and customers. We also know that data files are getting much bigger as they get more complex - video, audio, graphics. That's why the analysts are telling us to expect storage growth of 100% a year - every year. The problem: storage is growing faster than disk is getting cheaper, and IT budgets are flat or shrinking year-on-year.
This year, 2001, has defined a new financial reality that is radically different from the IT euphoria of years gone by. IT managers are no longer "throwing disk" at the storage problem like they did last year. We are seeing a pragmatism that recognizes the need to satisfy IT needs, but with a matching sense of business value that recognizes that the IT budget and human capital are limited resources that need to carefully managed and leveraged to deliver the greatest VALUE.
There are a number of ways to get the greatest return from the storage budget - to meet IT needs AND pragmatic business value. And there are ways to delegate people-intensive storage management to software.

Abstract for Keynote Address
The arrival of the Internet has forever altered the role of data in business and local government. The "connected" marketplace creates limitless reach and opportunities - presenting the possibility of soliciting new mass markets while simultaneously fostering highly personalized one-on-one customer relationships. However, this condition introduces unprecedented competitive pressures, and has created customer demand for real-time response.
The solutions necessary to manage this new age of digital information go beyond the conventions of storage management, which are tactically focused on simply "parking" and protecting data. In the digital marketplace, data achieves its maximum strategic value and impact when in motion, allowing it to be rapidly accessed, shared, replicated and manipulated in critical applications at every level of enterprise. VERITAS Software keeps data in motion by enabling reliable, unfettered delivery across diverse computing environments, from the desktop to the data center. Broader and more strategic than storage management, data availability empowers users to fully leverage data storage applications and the Internet. The result: will be the virtual elimination of downtime, reduced operating costs, enhanced productivity and an unmatched flexibility to respond to new opportunities.

Abstract for Keynote Address
The information explosion has created a data-centric society, placing unprecedented stress on the ability of our IT systems to keep pace. This has led to explosive growth in new infrastructure schemes, such as the Storage Area Network, the optical Metro-Area Network, and Broadband WANs. Can these evolving strategies be integrated to support what many are calling the 'virtual SAN', ensuring continued support for escalating information demands of the future? Mr. Grodhaus' insights will lay out some of the trends, challenges, and strategies for a truly global storage network infrastructure.
The afternoon will consist of a 2-track setup with 2 panel topics to be discussed concurrently. If you are interested in participating on any of the following Panel discussions please email Daniel Delshad, our Conference Chairman at Danield@StorageWorldConference.com Track 1
1:30pm Panel #1: The Future of SAN/NAS - Storage Networking Convergence Chairperson: » Randy Kerns, Evaluator Group Panelists: » Steve Kleiman, Network Appliance CTO » Bruce Kornfeld, Dell Computers Dir. of Worldwide Marketing Powervault Storage » Joan Wrabetz, Tricord CEO » Thomas Z. Isakovich, TrueSAN Networks President/CEO
Panel Abstracts: The entire storage-networking infrastructure is changing as the industry migrates toward NAS/SAN convergence and offers additional storage services, such as remote administration, and mirroring and clustering technology. One of the biggest, and most disruptive, developments to storage is the emergence of an open standards storage network. This session will help you understand how this convergence will affect your storage infrastructure in the future.
2:15pm Panel #2: Storage Virtualization - The Realization of Virtualization Chairperson: » H. Clinton Vaughan, Salomon Smith Barney Panelists: » Mike Feinberg, StorageApps CTO » Augie Gonzalez, DataCore Sotfware Director of Product Marketing » Chuck Hollis, EMC VP of Products and Markets » David Lamont, Vicom Systems VP of Marketing
Panel Abstracts: Storage Virtualization was once considered the Killer App, but the adoption of this concept has not yet gained acceptance within the IT community. With its promises of giving an organization the ability to efficiently manage its data and dynamically expand its storage infrastructure, Storage Virtualization's purpose was to help incorporate technologies available while maintaining access, flexibility, and security. Learn from the leaders of tomorrow about what's on the horizon for the Virtualization sector.

Panel Abstracts: Networked Storage is constantly evolving to meet the demands of the end user. What will the data center of the future look like? How will computer, bandwidth and storage resources be allocated dynamically? Will one protocol win out or will the future see co-existing protocols deployed to provide the services that each does best? This session will show how a multi-protocol, intelligent platform will expand connectivity, increase the capability of heterogeneous SAN's, simplify management and enable next generation applications to meet the demands of enterprise requirements.
Track 2
1:30pm Panel #5: The Future of Storage Services Chairperson: » Fred Moore, President Horison Inc Panelists: » Mark Kincaid, StorageNetworks VP of Network Engineering » Kirby Wadsworth, Storability VP Marketing » Tom Sweeney, ManagedStorage International CEO » Ken Akerley, Storage Alliance Inc. VP Business Development
Panel Abstracts: "Storage by the slice" is quickly going out of style. Today, companies need more than just a way to store data, they need an efficient, scalable storage solution that allows professionals to focus on their core business objectives, and leave the colossal task of managing storage to the experts. This session will help companies put into perspective what's going to drive their storage needs over the next 6-9 months and how to best choose between internal and external storage management solutions. Barrera, IBM Director Systems Strategy and Architecture » Ron Engelbrecht, LSI Logic Storage Systems VP/GM
Panel Abstracts: Magnetic disks contain nearly all of the world's mission critical data as RAID pushes data availability to ever higher levels. Disk demand is expected to grow between 70 to 80% annually, the price of disk is falling more than 80% per year, and the capacity of disks is consistently increasing at over 100% annually. Will these trends continue? What new functions will disk subsystems offer? Can disk capacity continue to grow at present rates without comparable performance gains? Can any technology emerge to replace disk in the storage hierarchy? This panel will discuss the key developments ahead for disk storage systems.
