Here's a really good book:
The Evolution of Physics by Albert Einstein
Its written for the layman and explains how relativity works along with how he came up with the idea.
Another one is Richard Feynman 'Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! Adventures of a Curious Character'. Plain speaking philosophers I like Richard Alpert and Bertrand Russell. Wish these people were still around and I could hang with them!

Wowa, that's some comparison! One might say that Einstein tried to explain what the Dali says transcends the spoken word. Sounds a bit nuts, which I believe he was.
