The New York Times, May 11, 1997 Last, but not least, your notion, that Israel needs to launch a pre-emptive strike against an opponent that it is so overwhelmingly superior to, is utterly preposterous. If Egypt had such a threatening military force on the border (which you state is true, but all the Israeli military leadership states is false), why did poor little old Israel slice through them like a hot knife through butter? Ah yes, must have been God smiling down on his Chosen People . . . Tom
