Wow, didn't actually expect to alter anyone's perceptions. Was simply explaining why I am so comfortable being long here. The fact that there are such large short positions out there really helps me sleep well at night being long. All the cash on the sidelines helps even more. Don't have to worry about timing the bottom perfect because I know that a few weeks later I will be up big time as the shorts cover and the sidelined folks buy in. I can be out of town, totally miss the big blowoff (if it even occurs), and still make out like a bandit. If we rally instead or never blow off then I make out MUCH better than those trying to time the bottom or waiting for the uptrend because they have to cover and/or buy at higher prices than I bought in at.

The only position we have in common is FLEX, and I wouldn't even considering buying the other stocks you are shorting. I acquired significant positions in many of the contract manufacturers after seeing the Durable Goods Orders report (communications equipment orders were up 14%) and the PCB book-to-bill ratio of .90 (market expected .74). You might want to try Celestica (CLS) instead of FLEX. It's one of the very few I don't own yet because it looks too pricey. It has been dropping slowly.

Also need to clarify something to prevent misunderstandings. Portfolio would not be up on the week except that Thursday my two remaining tech shorts automatically covered and a few key buys automatically executed. Also have a few NG shorts that have performed exceptionally well :o)

energyplay, below is link to Northern Trust article entitled "Is Monetary Policy Impotent This Time?" (August 27th) by Paul Kasriel. Bottom line, we shouldn't rule out monetary policy working this time.
