You may be right, Karen. I consider myself an optimist but life has granted long months when a jaded pessimism prevails. Rather than view folks in phases, I was indicating their 'natural' tendencies. I've known some folks who are constant pessimists, who certainly can have a good time now and then, but most of the time they look for the rottenness in folks. I do consider that to be a bad thing, just like the opposite is good.

But because optimist and pessimist can be too broadly defined, your refinement of the terms is probably wise.

Thanks!

Ah- that's a good point. My daughter and I were thinking good people were people we would like for neighbors. If you are talking about people simply not being "bad" then as long as they don't hurt other people, and do constructive work, that would probably be enough. But to be "good" my daughter and I were both thinking of things we like in people. Good is, I am afraid, a subjective quality.
