Qualties I want in my friends- well Rambi and Sir Realist both had good lists (imo)

Qualities of a good neighbor- they don't bother you too much, they keep their house neat, they don't steal your stuff, they let you know if you've left your headlights on so you don't come out to a dead battery, if they get your mail by mistake they bring it over- so they are somewhat thoughtful, diligent and honest. They don't have to be cheerful, or optimistic, or intelligent.

And for a good member of society- be productive (or should I say try to be productive? Because some people aren't productive, but if they are really trying, is that enough?), and don't hurt others. Is there anything else? I would think that would be the minimum.

what makes you a good member of society?

I've never used by big honkin' laser gun to blow up the whole world (even when everyone's pickin' on me) and I'm pretty good at stifling the urge to pass gas. ;^)

I never really aim to be a good member of society; that's open to every interpretation. I find it a natural impulse to be loving, fair, kind and tolerant. I do aim to be a good model for children (I don't cuss much, I share, I choose mostly safe behaviors and take risks in areas that make sense to, plus the aforementioned stuff) because they're still finding their way.

An old-timer anarchist (not the new-fangled lemming-like kind of oxymoron) told a tale of an anarchist hauled before a judge..... the anarchist told him about laws.... "Most folks don't need them and the ones who do won't follow 'em if you write 'em."

In that vein, I abide by most of them because simple reason determines most civil behavior.

I also rail at injustice to others, and can be moderately effective at that. I'm not as good defending myself because it seems too self-centered (an odd way of thinking, but there I am).
