1. Egypt's casting aside of UN troops - the crucial fact you purposefully omit is that Israel had in the first place refused to allow these same troops on its own side of the border.

2. As is explained in the article, Israel was trying to provoke war with Syria. Egypt was trying to discourage this act, by showing its troops. Egypt's purposes were clearly stated (not conniving like Israel) and fully justified:

In the end, Israel had to resort to starting the war itself.

As the article explains, Dayan's opposition to taking the Golan was based on his opinion that Israel would be forced to return the land after the war.

Exactly. Because he realized the reason they wanted to take the Golan Heights was primarily a land grab. He knew how obnoxious the religious freaks of the kibbutz are, that they would not want to give the land back, no matter how deeply it has been drenched with Arab blood. And, of course, the ensuing 35 years have proven him right.
