FM: Do we call the bear who kills his own cubs, in order to bring the female into breading,

K: Females don't kill their cubs so they can come into heat. Males kill cubs.

Thanks for the interpretation. I understood it the first time.

Andrea Yates was so strung out on different meds, blaming it on God is ridiculous. Plain and simple, scientism strikes again.

I'm back. Sorry for the delay it's a long weekend here and we just said goodbye to #2 leaving the nest, so it been a little teary. Besides, it's been a conundrum about how to get the new hot tub into his old room. :)

"A female killing her young is anomalous, unless they are defective or too many and she sacrifices them in favor of the rest of her young."

First some females eat their young as well. Fish for example. Same question; Why aren't they considered evil?

Or, she wants to be free to party. LOL, or CRY. I just heard a quote from her brother where he said "I have never seen her happier". WHAT!!!! just weeks after planning and then killing all five of her children, she's happier than she's ever been? Apparently they are talking about having more kids. So then I guess that they fell into the "too many" category you mentioned.

"There doesn't seem to be a compelling correlation between goodness and belief."

Actually there is. There is a clear distinction between those who simply cry "LORD LORD" and those that do his will, ie obey his commandments. Many, who consider themselves to be "spiritual", profess what they do not possess. At any rate it is more the direction of your life than the perfection of it. When Christians fail, they will turn to God admitting their sin and trusting in the provision made for them at the cross. It's very difficult from our limited perspective to know what the condition of an others heart is before God, but our actions often manifest the true condition of our Hearts. I don't know squat about Yates, but I know what she did was evil. Can you say the same? If so, why?

justice and injustice assumes that an ultimate standard of morality, really does exist

"It may be intuitively obvious to you, but it doesn't necessarily resonate with everyone."

Neither does denying something over and over make it false. My view is logically and experientially consistent.

"There are other explanations just as plausible."

I am still waiting to hear them...........

Re all societies having a shared base morality;

"Perhaps, now, they're not so different from one another. It is the age of globalism, after all. Among dispersed populations of primitive peoples, not likely, although we have no way of knowing."

Honestly, I'm not sure if you are just uninformed on this statement, or your just being a tad disingenuous. Frankly, not only does the whole of recorded history contradict you, but last century there were numerous discoveries of yet unknown societies that "ALL" have moral notions that are strikingly similar to ours. Coincidence you say? I think not.

"I think the golden rule, a secular statement of virtue, makes a lot of sense."

I agree that the golden rule makes sense, even though the golden rule as it is known, is actually silver, being only #2 on the priority scale. It was interesting to se the divergent list of life priorities that was passed around recently. How do you think yours compared to God's? God's #1 for us is, "Love God with all your heart and mind and soul". #2(love neighbor as self) can only be done out of an appreciation of #1, and neither is truly possible outside of heart that has been transformed through faith in the only one capable of performing such a task. The one who loved you, and died for you, Jesus Christ.

I look forward to hearing what you think.
Have a great day Karen.
