That deal with Toyota that AOL was touting last week is probably not much more than a multi-media discount package. I bet it has little to do with synergy, and a lot to do with share. Of course share (even at a hefty discount) can be important in a weak economy.

When I worked at ABC-TV we were approached often about combination deals with all the Cap Cities properties (ABC, TV stations, radio stations and networks, A&E, ESPN, newspapers, etc) and Cap Cities' top management always turned the idea down because it amounted to no more that a request for a package discount.
