Hello, Professor Julius Wong:

The basic idea underlying our "mechanical hedge investing" is to write stock screening software fo screen for stocks that have sound historical fundamentals and are available at reasonable prices, then short against these stock selections with a portfolio of less fundamentally sound stocks.

From our experience, the market will reflect the relative values of the two portfolios and produce an overall positive return -- after a reasonable market adjustment period.

Our conclusion is that this would be the least risky way of investing in the market -- regardless of the trend of the market and without having to make a directional prediction.

With best regards,

pcyhuang
