Most casual and inexperienced (re: internet) investors reached that state months ago, even last year. If you are basing your perceptions on the contributors to our favorite SI threads, you have a highly skewed sampling of investors. Most of us had spectacular years in Y2K, unlike 90-95% of stock market participants, only now are we feeling the pain (those of us who are invested that is).
Don't underestimate the degree of hopelessness in the general investing public.

Some use TA, some use FA to plan their market decisions. Some use a combination of TA and FA.
Apparently, others use heuristics (rules of thumb) which cannot be quantified.
