Marcos, I hesitate to answer some of your excellent metaphorical questions to Alan.

Q. Has gold converted?
A. Yes it has, from a religious icon to the adornment of witches.

Q. Is gold born again?
A. No. The excesses of previous hoarding and profligate mammon worship are still with us.

Q. Is Rome really on fire?
A. Certain parts are but there is no real evidence of inflation anywhere or dollar depreciation sufficient to cause a financial panic. On the contrary, with the fall in consumer spending internationally, I expect the purchases of jewellery, the main use for gold, to diminish.

For me, the jury is still out on whether the finger goes up or down. But, I have to say it looks VERY, VERY droopy!
