CBS Lines Up Replacement for Dan Rather

With reports flying that CBS is looking for a replacement for Dan Rather, some say the longtime anchorman's days are numbered.
With Rather's reputation badly damaged by his adamant refusal to cover the Condit-Levy story, his barely concealed leftist bias, and his ratings sliding, stories about his pending departure coming from inside CBS itself strongly suggest that he may be on the way out.
Under fire from such respected organizations as the Media Research Council, Accuracy in Media and NewsMax.com, which has been campaigning to have CBS fire him, and with his co-workers speculating on his successor while he's still on the job, Rather may well not fill out his contract, which ends in 2003.

Says Wednesday's New York Daily News: "CBS News insiders are buzzing about what's shaping up to be a two-man, in-house race for the coveted anchor seat, pitting [Scott] Pelley against CBS chief White House correspondent John Roberts."

Pelly, the Daily News reports, is "resurfacing as a serious contender to succeed" Rather. But Roberts, who frequently sits in for Rather, is still regarded as the front runner to become anchorman of "CBS Evening News."

Rather is said to be in Pelly's corner, and CBS insiders say he's spent much of his career at the network trying to be a mini-Rather.

"He wants to be 'Mini Me' to Dan," a CBS News exec told the Daily News, referring to the "Austin Powers" character. "It's scary."

CBS insists that Rather isn't going anywhere just yet.

"There is absolutely no change at the 'CBS Evening News' on the horizon," spokeswoman Sandy Genelius told the paper.

If that's so, why is everybody at CBS talking about who will replace him?

I resemble that remark. AS is the champion bullshitter here, although some of your pals are pretty damn good. You got a problem with anything I posted, jus' lemme know.
