hi Maurice Winn,

Mucho, you didn't read the article about Pele-Phone correctly.

surely you are being ironic when you talk about "refuting" my points. you totally avoided the two key points about Pele-Phone: namely that the operator is an abysmal failure in head-to-head competition with a TDMA and a GSM operator and that Pele-Phone is rejecting Qualcomm's 3G upgrade path.

you apparently think that a CDMA operator picking W-CDMA is an unmitigated triumph for Qualcomm. that the current global rejection of cdma2000 (Pele-Phone, SK Telecom, major TDMA operators, all GSM operators, two PDC operators) in no way reflects loss of faith in Qualcomm's R&D approach. i can't see the point here. Q has spent all these years and all that money developing cdma2000 - and you seem to be claiming that the failure of the standard to get the projected customer base has zero impact. that's mystifying. with your reasoning, it would not be an incremental positive if all those operators had chosen cdma2000 - it would have no impact on Q's earnings, since losing these customers has no incremental negative effect, either. the train of thought derailed soon after it left the station.

CDMA has been successful in more than two countries

is the best defense you can offer for IS-95 really that "it has been successful in more than two countries"?

well - why don't you name one, Maurice.

tell us all how a CDMA network has helped KDDI in Japan against the PDC competition. tell us how it has benefited Pegaso in Mexico. tell us about Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. tell us about CDMA growth rate in Latin America this year.

come on - dazzle me. you've seen the statistics about Pele-Phone's dismal numbers in Israel and the competing networks' success. you've seen the lousy Pegaso quality numbers from Mexico. you've seen the CDMA growth numbers from Latin America. you're aware of the flops in Singapore and Hong Kong.

now - give me some data about the alleged CDMA success outside of Korea and America. go ahead - "refute" me.
