Japan's DoCoMo to Launch 3G on Oct 1 as Planned
Sunday September 2 10:55 PM ET

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's largest mobile phone operator, NTT DoCoMo Inc (9437.T), said on Monday it would launch the world's first commercial third-generation (3G) mobile services on October 1 as planned.

The company said it would announce details of the 3G services at 4:30 p.m. (3:30 a.m. EDT).

DoCoMo President and Chief Executive Keiji Tachikawa is expected to attend the press conference.

DoCoMo in May postponed the commercial launch of 3G services due to a lack of stable connections, but instead rolled out trial services for 4,500 corporate and individual users.
