Sharck...I have been calling for 10,000 at least on the nikkei since it was back at 12,000. The spiral has already begun, and there is a global recession already. And whether, the US is ready to admit it or not, we are in a recession as well. The GDP numbers don't tell the story and when you factor in things like inflation, trade deficits and so forth, our growth was pretty negative already last quarter. The US and Japan have different reasons for taking that paths they did, but the outcome will be the same. And don't count on interest rates bailing us out. It's not the answer. We can go all the way to zero interest rates and it won't do squat to jump start our economy. If 3 1/2% points in 9 months doesn't do it, then it's not working. The problem lies in the fact the the US is a debtor nation exactly as you say. Simply put, we cannot pay on what we already owe and no interest rate reduction will cure that.

Sharck I believe many will actually be surprised how bad this q will be. I find far too much HOPE that a bottom was already put in and the BULL the rise from the DEAD! LOL

Regarding Japan, Having invested and made my first score back in 1986 w/ a Japan corp, think going forward JAPAN will endup being a better BET going forward then the US. Unlike many who don't want to understand the problem in Japan, I donot think their BANKING HISTORY is to blame for the 11 year SECULAR BEAR they have been mauled with.

You must look at how the excesses in their economy was first created....HI TECH...INNOVATIVE AUTO's etc...They were the first HI-TECH BULL market from 1980 to 1990. The problem was..like we have OVER CAPACITY and a SHRINKING DEMAND....!

The US BEAR will be far worse and longer then the Japanese. I do believe we are in a SECUALR BEAR. The rallys within these type of BEARS are INCREDIBLE!! So we short term traders should do well, but the buy and hold days I believe are behind us for a while!
