I think you are underestimating BJT technology. Recent advances have brought BJT transistor sizes down close to that of CMOS, and they are a lot faster. I remember seeing research from my Alma Mater about 80GHz Networking processors based off of BJT technology on silicon germanium wafers at the .25u manufacturing node. Quite impressive, if you ask me. The only problem is that yield was abysmal. I think they had a couple working parts out of several hundred on a wafer. But still, 10 years down the road, I see BJT transistors overtaking CMOS, once the CMOS technology wall is hit.
