Because we are a mobile species that like to communicate, more so then need to see each other. The basic phone (POT) in our homes proves that with it's longevity. People in Cars, mom's to kids, employee to employee, dates to dates, etc etc. none of those really need un-tethered video but there was a huge need for mobile communication between those people. I can see select areas, such in a emergency, or house buying maybe, but for the most part, the need for un-tether video will not be universal as it was for voice. I'm sure you remember people walking around with cell phones like bricks. They wanted them so bad they would carry around bricks to have them. Now they have small communicators that with flip up mics. There is no way they will tolerate big enough phones to support big enough screens to see full motion video on. They are trying to create the need other then fill the need. Much like internet appliances, which for the most part have been a bust, or faster PC's with our eyes glazing over at the ever increasing speed, 1 gig, 2 gig, blah, blah, blah, who cares other then techie types. Where's the killer app for video on small screen? Porno! my god! It's going to be slow UF, real slow, with many people being forced to change handsets and pissing and moaning about it, only to buy the lower end. jmho
