...I prefer to attribute the expression to technical traders...I was of that opinion too...I don't know that we want to go there again.

Please forgive me if I sound naieve. I've gone back and read the posts on market timing and saw no mention of this. I thought a "Market Timer" was an investor who bought and sold based on the study of cycles? Cycles in the economy, market, and specific industry segment. Even the companies who aren't considered "cyclical", still are subject to the cycles of the economy, and market in general.
I didn't think that someone who sold with the intention of buying back at a later date, was automatically considered a "Market Timer". I thought that was part of the definition of "capital preservation".
I've learned that institutions pay big money for expert advise on cycles....or "Market Timing".
