Well, maybe the resulting company will feel able to exercise some autonomy when it comes to deciding which products it will offer to the markeplace.

If Intel decided to cut off HP and Compaq as punishment for selling AMD products, it would find itself cutting off a rather large portion of its customer base.

OTOH, this isn't anywhere near a monopsony without Dell and IBM.

Why would HP/Compaq try to screw over Intel or vice versa? HP shares a lot of Itanium IP, and Compaq and Intel got cozy over Itanium and Alpha before the merger... Sounds to me like Intel/HP/Compaq are going to try to take on IBM for the top spot...
