I'm only politically active every 5-10 years or so when something really-really pisses me off and I see people ignoring it. Fortunately I've found that when I get outraged so are many-many other people until we are an unstoppable army for positive change. The three crimes which really woke me up have been:

1) Iran-Contra in so far as it totally screwed the DEA's cases against the Medellin Cartel and was associated with the DEA at the time

2) Exxon-Valdez spill - where I did wilderness survival training as a youth

3) The energy gougings of 2000-2001 which so far only a few have written about but could soon be the biggest scandal of the decade

Not to boast but sometimes I am ahead of the crowd. In fact in my job that's what I'm paid to do. And no I am not in any way involved in politics. I also called Clinton and Carter as the next Presidents during the Iowa caucuses when they were running near the back of the pack and few had ever even heard of them. So when you hear me predict Kerry in 2004 don't forget you heard it here. Kerry-Edwards. I also predict the Dems will hold onto the Senate in 2002, Cheney will resign under fire but claim health problems, he will be replaced by a younger moderate (maybe even Powell) and that the 2002 battle for congress will go down to the wire and though Condit won't win (easy call) the Dems and moderate Independents will take the majority by a very slim margin. Part of this is a gradual shift of power away from the Dixie conservatives who will remain powerful but have had their chance but shown too many signs of divisive corruption and backward-looking ways. This will turn off women and minorities even more than they are already turned off, and working-class men won't appreciate the Bush recession years. Bush will go on to become CEO of a major company and retire a semi billionaire with many scndals in his closet but many supporters as well, esp in Texas. Jeb Bush will re-take Florida next year only because the Dems don't have someone strong enough to run against him. And iJeb is luvcky they don't have one. It will be close but no cigar for the Dems there and that will be a big disappointment to many. Jeb however is a better smarter man than his brother and less corrupt. Katherine Harris's manipulations notwithstanding. Jeb may even go on to be a presidential contender in 2008.

As for the market, I have no idea except in the long run most stocks now will trade at much higher prices. Bush however doesn't instill much confidence in our near-term economy. So don't expect much in the next few years.
