The rest of the economy does not have to tank -- it is merely a risk that got priced in somewhat during the summer. A bubble is a dangerous thing to the economy. It creates such a terrible price distortion that it hurts everything else around it. If we are lucky, the bubble stocks (the truly out of whack ones which were so popular) will go on suffering a lingering death for the next few years while the rest of the economy hums right along.
