As to an Intel based PC without MSFT, you can get your money back apparently. I recall some linux guys camping out on MSFT's doors demanding their checks. It made the papers and I think they got their rebate. But it wasn't easy.

I have used LINUX and Windows for three years.
Let me tell you something that unless you are not technical, using LINUX at times becomes a pain.
I have rarely run into this problem when using Windows.

So when it comes to average user, I think Windows is going to win hands down.
I can understand the anti competitive practices of Microsoft but Windows is something that is really user friendly.
